It looks as though Nokia is really hell-bent on freshening up its image as it has now announced the rather risky move of unveiling a new font and branding. Yep, the same Nokia logo fans have grown to love (or hate, depending on what side of the fence you're on) will soon be changed after years of being a household image in the mobile phone space.
And what would replace the Finn's all-too-familiar logo and font? In case you didn't know, they're using Nokia Sans as the font. This will now be replaced by the simpler and slimmer Nokia Purewhich, according to Nokia Brand Book blog, is the symbol of "beauty in supreme usability,".
The new font is also described to be based on fluid, seamless motion while providing a sense of harmony between the huge company's branding and design language. A sense of this could be seen at first glance when you notice that the characters are curved and rounded and seems to fit with each other.
We may only be talking about the font and branding here but this decision undoubtedly was given a lot of thought over at Espoo. For one, it's not that light a decision to change something that almost everyone knows after building that sort of brand familiarity for well over a decade.
We may look at this as the Finn's way of going back to the drawing board also on the branding side and getting a new start especially now that it has partnered with Microsoft. Of course, the success of this decision is still within the hands of the consumers.
