RIM has officially confirmed that their tablet, the BlackBerry Playbook, will be supporting Android and Java apps. It's a move that could potentially save the device from disappearing into oblivion, and one that, according to our survey, is something you guys really wanted.
According to RIM's press release, opening up the PlayBook will give their users "an even greater choice of apps and will also showcase the versatility of the platform.” Developers meanwhile, will have the aadded advantage of "building for the BlackBerry or Android platforms" where their creations can be easily ported to run on the BlackBerry Tablet OS.
Ok so that settles it: Android and iOS are so big, even established companies such as RIM and Nokia are willing to sacrifice part of their identities just to keep themselves in the running. Talk about bowing down to Steve Jobs pressure.
