2011 FORD EDGE: OVERVIEW

2011 Ford Edge front

VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS

The 2011 Ford Edge gets a major freshening, with revised styling, a new interior, and new engines. This is the smaller of Ford's midsize SUVs. Edge seats 5 and is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Trim levels include SE, SEL, Limited, and Sport. Initial SE, SEL, and Limited models will have a new 285-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, which replaces a 265-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Due later in the 2011 model year will be a new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that should be standard on the SE and SEL. The Sport has a 305-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, a sport suspension, and specific trim. The sole transmission for all Edge models is a 6-speed automatic. Maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Standard on the Limited and Sport and optional on the SEL is the company's new MyFord Touch, which eschews traditional audio and climate switchgear in favor of most functions being governed by a touchscreen and voice activation. Another new feature is iTunes Tagging, which works in conjunction with the Limited's and Sport's HD-Radio receiver and navigation system. If a driver or passenger is listening to the radio and likes what is playing, he or she can press a "TAG" button on the display. The song's information will then be stored in the system's onboard memory. Upon plugging in an iPod, the tagged song data will be transferred to the device, whereby the owner can preview, purchase, and download those songs from Apple's iTunes store. Up to 100 tagged songs can be stored in the vehicle. Available features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a navigation system. We have not yet tested the 2011 Ford Edge.
