LG Optimus Q Android Phone Specs vs Samsung Galaxy S i9000 / Captivate

Rave reviews of Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Android phone is being enjoyed by Samsung as of late, which first saw light in European markets. But another Korean firm is keen to get in the spotlight, LG Electronics recently announced that they are planning to release their new Android 2.1 superphone, the LG Optimus Q, outside South Korea. The company debut it on the Korean market place last May unlocked for $768 and, according to them, sold very well. So much so that LG is now inspired to issue the Optimus Q globally.

LG Optimus Q is LG's Answer to Samsung's Galaxy S i9000 Android Phone

This only LG’s second Android model but the Optimus Q features the same 1 GHz SnapDragon processor that other current high-end phones have like the Nexus One, HTC EVO 4G, and HTC Desire. Features-wise, it has a 3.5-inch multi-touch AMOLED screen and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. Just like the other premium models like the iPhone 4, the Optimus can also do video recording at HD 720p resolution. The downside is this unit’s only got a stock 3GB storage so you will need to buy a separate microSD to increase your video recording capacity up to 32GB.

The Optimus Q has all the necessary bells and whistles you would expect in a super phone. It’s got WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, etc… What sets it apart is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard and the dedicated touch-sensitive optical track pad. I don’t know for sure what LG is thinking in adding this circular track pad but I appreciate the addition of a physical keyboard. I still find typing on tiny virtual keys an undesirable but necessary task. Lastly, the Optimus Q packs a built-in TV tuner! I don’t know why other manufacturers ignore this option, don’t they know that there are still people like who wants to watch commercial TV for free! Streaming movies and TV on smart phones eats up your data plan! AT&T has already scrapped unlimited data plans for its subscribers and soon others will follow. The TV Tuner Optimus Q means I can watch as much TV as I can without paying a single cent to my phone provider!
