Steve Wozniak at Google's HQ with the Galaxy Nexus
The never-ending argument of which is better, Android or the iPhone, still rages on and now, one of the most popular icons of the tech industry gave his two cents' worth on the issue. Steve Wozniak, who is fondly called Woz or The Woz, said something that might excite or disappoint you (depending on which side of the fence you're one). The Apple co-founder stated that, simply put, while he loves the iPhone, Android devices are just better in several ways. Ouch!
“My primary phone is the iPhone,” The Woz says. “I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do,” he added. And what are these areas Google's mobile OS is better? One area that he cited is in app approval. As we all know, Apple can be very strict with this process so things can be a bit slow while on Android, developers can release apps, tweaks and updates faster which is something the developer community wants.
Curiously, Wozniak also mentioned Siri, iOS' virtual voice-assistant feature, doesn't work as seamlessly as he wanted it to and even said “I have a lower success rate with Siri than I do with the voice built into the Android, and that bothers me.” And it looks as though the recent "Battery-gate" issue didn't escape his attention as well. “With the iPhone, something happened with the new OS or the new phone, and it just started running through the battery so fast,” Wozniak says. “I’ve had a lot of issues with things I have to turn off just to save the battery life.” Another advantage Android has according to Wozniak is its GPS system.
Now don't get him wrong, Apple fans. He still offers the iPhone as the best handset for most users, especially for those who are already comfy inside Apple's ecosystem and for "people who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them." However, For Wozniak, Android is a good system, too, and that there are similarities between it and iOS. The scary thing for Tim Cook and co. is that Google's spawn could transform into a huge threat like how Windows was to Mac, specifically in the 90s where the fight was nothing short of lopsided. And, yes, Wozniak sees the similarity.
We're not shocked that Steve Wozniak said those things although we admit, we're a bit surprised. We recall that, just recently, he went straight to Google's HQ to get a Galaxy Nexus (although he admits he like Moto's Droid Razr). Now we wonder, what would Steve Jobs say if he's still alive?
