HP’s first Chromebook has been ousted ahead of a public announcement thanks to a PDF that was recently discovered on the company’s website. The HP Pavilion Chromebook looks to be in line with similar offerings from the competition albeit with a few odd twists, like a 14-inch display and questionable battery life.
The document claims the Pavilion Chromebook will ship with a 1.1GHz Celeron processor, 2GB of system RAM, a 16GB solid state drive and the aforementioned 14-inch display operating at 1,366 x 768. As The Verge highlights, that screen size is a bit strange considering Chromebooks from Acer, Lenovo and Samsung all feature 11.6-inch displays running at the same 1,366 x 768 resolution.
The HP variant also features the same amount of RAM and storage as Samsung’s Chromebook as well as the same processor used in Acer’s version.
Another interesting tidbit is the fact that the document notes a short battery life of just 4 hours and 15 minutes. When compared with the nearly seven hours of uptime that’s possible with Samsung’s offering, one has to wonder how there could be such a large difference between the two. Perhaps the larger display on the HP model commands that much more power?
Pricing and availability weren’t mentioned in the document but we expect the former to be in line with other Chromebook offerings. We will be sure to update this post if we hear anything more from HP ahead of an official announcement.
