Acer has unveiled a new notebook that aims squarely at the corporate and business crowd with a mix of design, power and portability. The TravelMate Timeline 8481T weighs just 3.7 pounds, boasts a slim 0.87-inch profile, and packs a 14-inch (1,366 by 768-pixel) display into a chassis that would normally house a 13.3-inch screen.
The company launched another thin screen, thin bezel notebook under its Gateway brand last month, so we assume they're both based on the same LG Shuriken display and we're eager to see the technology spread to other models.
In terms of specs, Acer's new system is powered by a second-gen Intel Core i5 processor with integrated graphics, 4GB of RAM (expandable to 8GB), and a 320GB SATA hard drive (7200RPM) with Disk Anti-Shock Protection technology. Other features include Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) technology, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an HD webcam, USB 3.0, and several security features to entice business users, including Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 to encrypt files and folders as well as Acer ProShield Security with BioProtection Fingerprint protection.
Battery life is said to be up to 13 hours with the included 8-cell lithium ion battery and the wireless signal on, though your mileage will vary depending on your computer settings, features and open applications.
The TravelMate Timeline 8481T is expected to start shipping in "early September" starting at a penny under $1,000.
