SEOUL, Korea--LG, the number two HDTV manufacturer in Asia, will attempt to catch up with its Korean rival by growing its 3D and LED-lit TV businesses in the region. We spoke to Her Kyu Chan, the company's LCD TV Asia regional business leader, on LG's market strategy and 2010 product roadmap at its Twin Towers office in bustling Seoul. Here are the highlights of the roundtable.

In a nutshell, the chaebol will be launching four series of 3D TVs in various screen sizes and an extensive LED-lit TV lineup. Although the company has not finalized the exact prices and accompanying accessories, its 3D offerings are estimated to have a 20 to 25 percent price premium over their 2D counterparts. They may come with up to two pairs of 3D glasses. The first LG 3D TV entry is due in 1H 2010 throughout Asia.

LG has lined up two flagship LX 3D TV lines for the first half of 2010. These include the LED-backlit LX9500 and its LED-edgelit equivalent featuring the highly sought after local dimming function for delivering deeper blacks. Among its various 2D LED-lit entries, two models that will also sport this feature are the backlit LE8500 and edgelit LE7500. The LX9500, LE8500 and LE7500 are marketed under its premium Infinia HDTV collection.

As for the second half of the year, LG will be launching a ultraslim 3D TV which measures a mere 9mm thick. Skype video and voice call service for its panels should also be introduced during the same period or earlier.
