Google Sites Leads Global Search Market

Google is still the search engine to beat, according to marketing-research analyst comScore. Of the 113 billion total searches accumulated in July, 76.7 billion were done via Google. That's 67.5% of the total searches performed. This is easy to believe as our own statistics here at Techie.com.ph reveal that Google is our number one traffic source.

With a 58% gain from 2008, it looks like Google is highly responsible for the global market-share figures which increased to a whooping 41% compared to last year's.

Based on the table above, trailing behind Google are Yahoo (8.9 billion searches or 7.8% share) and Chinese search-engine Baidu (8 billion searches or 7% share). In fourth place is Microsoft with 3.3 billion searches. We suspect that the newly revamped Bing search engine did wonders for Microsoft.

comScore also came up with statistics according to region, with Europe being hailed as the region with the most search-crazed people. Latin America, on the other hand, exhibited the heaviest search volume per person.
